Warning: SPOILERS for Insidious: The Red Door Below!Insidious: The Red Door unlocks the gateway to the Further again, and includes quite a few nods and Easter eggs to the previous Insidious movies. Insidious: The Red Door follows years after the ending of Insidious: Chapter Two, with Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) and his son Dalton (Ty Simpkins) on bad terms as Dalton heads for college and Josh goes through a separation from his wife Renai (Rose Byrne). Although Josh and Dalton have had their memories of their past demonic haunting erased, the two gradually begin experiencing demonic visions, and before long, new hauntings.
In addition to reprising his portrayal of Josh, Patrick Wilson also makes his feature directorial debut with The Red Door. While the movie is not necessarily a definitive finale for the Insidious franchise, it serves to wrap up the Lambert family's story in the series, with producer Jason Blum declaring The Red Door the last Insidious movie, at least "for a while". Patrick Wilson's direction seems to add to that, with The Red Door paying tribute to its predecessors in the Insidious franchise at several points - either through big Insidious Easter eggs or references.

8 Dalton's Sketch Of The Lipstick Demon
During the opening credits montage of Insidious: The Red Door, a series of Dalton's sketches as an art student are shown, including one of the Insidious franchise's recurring villain, known as the Lipstick Demon. What makes the sketch particularly noteworthy is that it is a recreation of the Lipstick Demon's first proper appearance in the original Insidious, in which he pops up right behind Josh. This scene was utilized heavily in the marketing for Insidious and would swiftly become one of the movie's most memorable jump scares. The Red Door evidently recognizes the significance of this moment to the success of Insidious by hearkening back to it early on.
7 Flash Of The Bride In Black
Another of the Insidious franchise's well known demonic antagonists is Parker Crane, a.k.a. The Bride in Black, who possesses Josh in Insidious: Chapter Two. The Insidious franchise includes an entire backstory for the Bride in Black, and although Parker is not a major character in The Red Door, the demonic antagonist does flash on screen in a minor cameo during the film. Aside from this, The Red Door also emphasizes the Bride in Black's significance to Josh's story in another way.
6 Flashback To Josh's Possession In Insidious: Chapter Two
Josh's aforementioned possession by the Bride in Black would turn him into an unwilling antagonist in Insidious: Chapter Two, with the movie culminating with Josh in possessed rampage in pursuit of his terrified family. The Red Door revisits Josh's possession in Insidious: Chapter Two, with Josh chasing Renai and their children into the basem*nt of their house. Josh would ultimately be freed of Parker Crane's possession when Dalton enters the Further to save his father, so The Red Door revisiting this in Josh's own return to the Further in the movie's third act show's just how much he and his family have gone through.
5 The Lipstick Demon's Workshop
After the young Dalton is abducted into the Further in the original Insidious, Josh finds his son chained and held captive outside a workshop belonging to the Lipstick Demon. The Red Door also features the Lipstick Demon's workshop as one of the locations Dalton sees when he is taken into the Further again. The Lipstick Demon's workshop is much less prominently featured than it was in Insidious, but The Red Door nevertheless offers a reminder of how such a seemingly innocuous location would be made a hellishly frightening part of the Further.

4 Flashback To Josh Rescuing Dalton
In addition to the Lipstick Demon's workshop being shown in the present tense in The Red Door, the movie also includes a brief flashback to Josh finding Dalton held captive right out of it. As with many of the flashbacks and Easter eggs in The Red Door, the scene's inclusion is a part of Josh and Dalton regaining their memories of their previous experiences with the demons of the Further after having them wiped out. A father having to rescue his kidnapped son is always a terrifying prospect, with The Red Door re-strengthening Josh and Dalton's bond as they remember what they have survived together.
3 Specs & Tucker's Internet Ad
As Dalton and his college friend Chris Winslow (Sinclair Daniel) begin searching for answers for the demonic visions Dalton is experiencing, the come across a video online of Specs (Leigh Whannell) and Tucker (Angus Sampson). Specs and Tucker are two of the more light-hearted characters of Indisious: The Red Door and of the franchise as a whole, helping the Lambert family and others with their demonic hauntings. With the ad featuring Specs and Tucker speaking about the Further and offering their services to combat hauntings, their Ghostbusters-like expertise in the previous Insidious movies gets a well-earned plug in The Red Door.
2 "Tip-Toe Through The Tulips"
The Insidious franchise is extremely effective at turning even the most seemingly harmless elements into tools of terror, and one of the most unforgettable is use of Tiny Tim's song "Tip-Toe Through The Tulips" in the first Insidious. The Red Door brings the song back briefly when Dalton is stuck in the Further in the finale. This is the only time The Red Door plays the song, and without the Lipstick Demon himself even on-screen, but it all that is needed to serve as a powerful reminder that a trip to the Further is very much the opposite of tip-toeing through the tulips.
1 Elise Rainer's Appearance
After Josh has saved Dalton from the Further with the two reconciling, The Red Door wraps up with Josh departing and encountering a familiar face and voice. Upon saying that he feels like he knows the woman he is speaking to, the camera pans around to reveal none other than the Insidious franchise's demonologist heroine Elaine Rainer (Lin Shaye). Elaine then replies to Josh "You may have seen me around", alluding to her past in helping the Lambert family combat demons both before and after Elaine's death in Insidious: Chapter Two. This also seemingly indicates that Josh and Dalton's memories of the past Insidious movies have not been entirely restored.
RELATED:
Elise is as essential a character to the Insidious movies as the Lambert family. Insidious: Chapter 3 and Insidious: The Last Key act as prequels in the Insidious timeline and move Elise fully into the spotlight with the paranormal expert helping other characters escape their own hauntings. The Red Door also hints to Dalton vaguely remembering Elise, who is seen in one of his sketches. Though Elise's appearance is only a cameo, Insidious: The Red Door clearly recognizes her importance to the series, with Elise perhaps offering a subtle congratulations of sorts to Josh that he and his family were able to defeat their demons for good without her help.
